KUMPAS is a 3D animated short film created to empower and raise awareness for the Deaf community, while also promoting accessible mental health. The story follows Maya and her grandmother, Lola Maria, who live in a small community in the Bicol Region. Through their close and loving relationship, Maya learns Filipino Sign Language (FSL) to better communicate with her grandmother, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, understanding, and family bonds, which contribute to community support and mental health resources within their environment.

The film was produced in partnership with students from National University – Manila. The Kakamay Movement played a vital role in the project by translating the film’s dialogues into Filipino Sign Language, ensuring authenticity and accessibility for the Deaf community. They also provided guidance and consultation throughout the production process to ensure accurate and respectful representation, while helping the team gain a deeper understanding of Deaf culture and the experiences of the Deaf community.

The film received international recognition after winning the Best Short Animation Film award at the 8th PRISM UBD Short Film Festival in Brunei Darussalam.
